- As the importance of libraries that become the source of knowledge infrastructure has emerged as a knowledge-based society, and the need for space for cultural welfare and lifelong learning has increased, more libraries have to be expanded.
In addition, the restoration of the community to improve the quality of life has emerged as a social interest and the role of the local center has been expected in the library.
Small libraries have emerged as an alternative to quickly supplement the number of public libraries and to easily expand the life-friendly space.
Small libraries have been steadily created over the past 20 years, demanding the role of a complementary material for public libraries and a central point for local communities.
However, the poor internal and poor operating environments are constantly pointed out against the increase and expansion of physical space, and now it is time to seek policy and practical measures to solve them.
This study focuses on the actual situation of small libraries with frequent closure and closure as much as the creation, and aims to find out what is necessary for the continuous operation and growth of small libraries.
For this purpose, the case study was conducted on the Thank you, Little Library and Children's Library in the Remuneration Bookstore Alley in Jung-gu, Busan.
The study examined the operation of small libraries by life cycle, focusing on interviews with former and current employees and volunteer activists who went through small libraries, and composed the life of small libraries based on their experiences and memories.
We observed what kind of changes small libraries have been going through and organically growing and declining, and based on this, we derived tasks for continuous operation power and growth of small libraries.
“Thank you, sir.
The small library of Glmaru and the children's library of the conservative-dong bookbinding alleys were different from each other through the 'builder-stabilizer-coordinator', and the detailed daily life of small libraries was categorized into human resources, business characteristics, and social relations, and major characteristics were summarized.
The operating power of small libraries derived through microscopic approach was shown to be driven through the formation of community values, continuous operation support of autonomous regions, and establishment of public-private partnerships.
In addition, as a task for continuous growth, it suggested the necessity of establishing the identity and role of small libraries, systematizing small library operation and management system, and establishing a small library solidarity network.
This study is meaningful in that it tried to draw up a plan for the continuous growth of small libraries by closely reflecting the experience of small libraries and the voice of the field.
I hope that the various life and stories of small libraries built throughout the country will be discovered, which will lead to interest and consideration that small libraries can be reborn as a space necessary for everyday life.
